What does it mean to be loved? Truly loved?
We are in the middle of this love month and I wanted to explore the areas of love, that affect my life.
Today, I'll be posting about the most important area of love in my life.
I actually posted a post last week on God’s love for us, but my sister said that it was boring and that it didn’t ignite anything in her.
So, I decided to take it down and try again. I didn’t completely do this because my sister knocked down my life’s work….tear….tear. No! I decided to redo the post, because I didn’t want people to be bored while reading about God’s reckless love.
I have been pondering all week on how to write about God’s love for us and I just couldn’t seem to figure out how to do it. And then…
I was looking through Tori Kelly’s Instagram and I came upon a wedding picture of her and her husband and in the description she put this quote:
“To be loved, but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known & not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known & truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God.” – Tim Keller.
I have never heard this quote before, but it puts in words how I feel about the love of God. It explains what it means to be loved.
The only way I can explain God's love for you, is from my experience. So, I will try to make it clear:
God knows me. He knows me so intricately and intimately.
He knows me better then I know myself.
He knows who He created me to be and who I will become.
He knows the abilities He put in me and He knows the traits that He crafted in me.
He knows the count of every hair on my head.
He knows what makes me tick, what makes me come alive and what makes me, me.
He knows the good in me……. but He also knows the bad in me.
He has seen my darkest and dirties places.
He has seen me do and dabble in things that I would never want anyone to know about or see.
He has seen me when I am not loving and when I act hatefully.
He has seen me when I appear one way, but my actions behind close door do not line up.
He has walked through the filth with me.
He has seen me when I am down, depressed, lonely and confused.
He has seen me when ….. You can fill in the blank.
He knows the good and the bad that is in my heart.
He knows me completely……. And yet He loves me fully and without regret.
The awesome thing is He knew me when I was in my mother’s womb. Therefore, He know who I was going to be, before I was even a thought and He still loved and decided to come and die for me.
As I come upon the 26th year in my life, I realize that there is no love like this. I have searched and I have not found it, because it doesn’t exist outside of Jesus. Marriage is the reflection of “IT”, but it still isn’t “IT”.
I am loved by the King of the Universe.
I hope that you all know how much God loves you. No matter who you are, what you’ve done or what you believe----- God loves you. And Jesus came down to die for you and would do it all over again, just to be with you.
I think I will leave you with this scripture:
Psalm 139 - NIV
1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
Prayer if you need it:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your love. Where would I be without it. God I pray that we would know, that we are loved. Lord I pray that your radical love would change our hearts so we can love others better. I pray that you will reveal your love to those who do not know it. I pray that revelation will cause them to walk confidently here on this earth, knowing they are loved by the King.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
